Bellatorre comes from the word "Bellator" meaning warrior or soldier in latin. It is pronounced bell-ah-tore-ray.
Long before the fall of the Moon Sisters, Bellatorre was a territory controlled by Terrae Imperium known as the Dark Lands. This demon, ghoul, and zombie infested landscape was harsh to live in. The only humanity that could be found was the prisoners exiled by the Imperium to the Dark Lands. The prisoners were left to die, rot, and seep in the dark earth. But over the years, more began to surive, becoming strong warriors trained to fight the undead, and demonic forces. Small towns and villages began to take root through the cursed land. The Imperium realized what an asset these warriors were, and began to take them back for their own army, calling them Bellators. Those that were not caught by the Imperium slowly began to become more 'monsterous.' Satyrs and and Minotaurs were born, as were Leonins and Tabaxi. Centaurs showed up not long later. If not of Anima Lunae, Forest Fey, or Adeptus origin, many animalistic races find their origins here.
The army of warriors the Imperium had collected inevitably revolted, starting a revolution. The Border Massacre resulted in a thousand 'Bellators' dead, but for each bellator, there was 4 Terrans dead. From that point on, these 'demonspawn' Bellators fought against the Imperium. After 3 years of constant battle, the Imperium surrendered the Dark Lands to the Bellators. The Imperial Senators hoped that the lands would destroy the Bellators, but as hisotry would show, it did not. Bellatorre was formed but had a very loose military government that kept everything together, for about 100 years.
During those 100 years, the Bellatorrans fought to rid their new homeland of the undead, demons, and other monsterous creatures. The more animalistic and monsterous humanoid races joined the fight with the Bellatorrans, and became one with them overtime. Not to simplify the conflict that did arise, many chose to join humanity than die in the darkness. Demons and the undead eventually fled to a different plane made of pink purple fire once the Bellatorrans learned to smite using the unbridled power of the sun. The first time sun shined on the earth, a giant griffin seemed to chase the sun across the sky. This became a symbol for the Bellatorrans, and it was only time before they began to worship the Sun, Solis.
A country of soldiers does not form a monarchy out of no where. After 10 years of debates, the leaders of the rebellion decided that physical strength, the very thing that had won them the rebellion, should be used to determine who was fit to lead the new nation. The First Gladitorial Tournament was held on Solaris 1st, Sun 1. The leaders of the rebellion, their generals, and their best soldiers competed to fight for a throne of their making. The tournament was held in the newly built Colleuseum of the Sun. There were 100 participants, and 28 battle total. The tournament was not a fight to the death. At the end, a Griffin centaur woman named Pluma came on top. Her dysansty is still the one in control of Bellatorre, with some small gaps. Most people believe because of her half-griffin body, that she was blessed by the Sun to survive and to lead.
For roughly 2,800 years Bellatorre florished under the Griffin Dyansty, which was named the Era of the Sun. Bellatorre was not built over night, but over centuries. During this time, small uprisings from the newly named "demonic realm" happened, but were not significant enough to cause much damage. It wasn't until the fall of the Moons that tragedy was to strike.
Bellatorre is a Monarchy. The crown is passed down to the oldest child, and shared equally by their partner. As of Dragon 20, the crown is shared by two Queens. Historically, most of Bellatorre's leaderss have been women.
The noble class is made of former warriors who have proven their in battle, and fought for their way into the Monarch's court. Very few members of the court are merchants, but all gain wealth eventually. Generals are highly regarded within the court.
Members of the court often find themselves making groups of their own. They are allowed to try and wiggle their way around the court and higher int o the ranks. The only thing not tolerated is any amount of traitor-like talk. To speak against the Monarch is more likely for one to end up dead.
There is a court system within Bellatorre. Judges decide on cases as they are brought forward. They handle only cases that involve normal citizens. Judges may judge on any case type, whether it is a small argument to be settled, some sort of civil case, or even violent crime like murder. However, for court members, military, soliders, generals, and other nobles the Monarchs decide their cases.
Bellatorre's landscape is mostly deep valleys, canyons, and tall mountains. The plains at the edges of valleys is where most agriculture exists.
