Before the Stellaris War, the Deserted Valley and the Stellaris had a vibrant trade partnership as the two regions were not as separated as others. Scholars, academics, illiterati, and those versed in the arts would exchange cultural and intellectual ideas. When looking at both regions' architecture and cultural arts, there is much they share. Their economies were intertwined. It was said that King Rasha even agreed to help the Artificer's Guild and College of Sorcerers find a way to make Firegate more inhabitable. After all, if he could make the desert a luxurious paradise desired by all, the bubbling lava-filled lakes of the Deserted valley too could become a treasure to Covaveil.
This trade agreement was held up by the Stellaris-Firegate Treaty of 36 Griffon.
When King Rasha began his assault on Covaveil, begining the Stellaris War–the Stellaris-Firegate Treaty of 36 Griffon was dismantled. Due to the geographical location of the Deserted Valley, it took some time to move forces to where Gatehold now stands. It took 3 months for the Artificer's Guild and the College of Sorcerers to gather their members to join the war. While the main forces went to the Dragonscale Range, King Rasha's splinter forces used the coast to enter the Deserted Valley. His forces quickly took Point of Magi, in the Surrender of the Point of Magi. The Deserted Valley forces didn't regain the Point of Magi until after the war. Rasha's forces moved on Firegate before the forces could return to defend. As they seiged the city, the Govener's forces that remained to protect the city struggled to fight off the living army. Governor Trevalis used the Horn of Fire to call out to the dragons in the Dragonscale mountains. To the city-state's luck, the dragons heeded their call, destroying the living army and driving them away during the Siege of Fire and Scales. Since that battle, the city has celebrated the Protection Ritual, and has held the Dragon Festival every year since then.
Since the war, the region has been working to make parts of the region more livable for those who move there.
